There are 23 wards in Tokyo.
Among them, there are wards that have various images attached to them.
I will introduce the images of such wards and towns as seen from me, a Japanese person.
Akihabara 🎮
To be honest, Japanese otaku don’t really come here much anymore. You can buy most products you want on Amazon, after all.
What is there are mostly inbound-tourist-oriented maid cafes or concept cafes, ramen, curry, figure shops, and maniac PC shops.
Especially, there is almost no otaku content for women. Anime-related exhibitions are also more frequent in Ikebukuro.
Shinjuku 🏢🚶♂️
If you go there around 7 AM, there are many people dressed entirely in black! It feels like a work town, a business district.
However, if you go towards Kabukicho, there are lots of shady shops.
It is a town that has everything.
There are many station exits. It is a town where the impression changes 180 degrees depending on the exit you leave from.
It is also the setting for Makoto Shinkai’s works “Weathering with You” and “Your Name,” so it is also a fun place to take a walk. 🌤️🎬
Shibuya ✨🕺
Super urban. An image that there are many “party people” (paripi).
My impression is that there are many strange small-scale shops. Recently, the image is that there are many CBD shops 😱(CBD shops are not common in Japan.)
I have never seen a CBD shop outside of this district.
However, it is also strong in subculture, and solo exhibitions by small artists and illustrators are held every now and then. 🎨
A very wonderful solo exhibition by Range Murata was also held in Shibuya. My image is that Shibuya holds quite maniac solo exhibitions too.
Ikebukuro 🎉📚
Otaku town.
It is the otaku “new town” that has taken over from Akihabara.
Especially, there is an absurdly huge Animate, and it has high support from women.
In the square in front of Animate, goods exchange meetings are held occasionally. 🤝
Cosplay is also thriving, and during Halloween, they even rent out a park to hold a cosplay event.
Bunkyo-ku 📘🏫
Town of study.
Recently, foreigners are buying land like crazy.
It is becoming a level where the average Japanese salary cannot afford it.
There are lots of super intense cram schools.
Minato-ku 🏙️✨
The image is that there are lots of the latest building complexes. There might be few buildings that have a Japanese feel.
But since they are holding many various exhibitions, it is a fun town to go to. As for food, if you pay the money, there are many delicious restaurants. 🍽️
Tsukiji 🐟🍣
A rip-off aimed at inbound tourists… or so I thought, but the seafood bowls around here are high in price, but the sashimi is properly delicious.
It might be that the shop I went to was good, but even at an empty shop, they used top-grade sashimi and it was extremely delicious. 😋
